The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal here has awarded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for a six years old girl who became disabled for life after a speeding truck knocked down the motorcycle she was riding with her parents.
Additional Sessions Judge K D Vadane, member of the MACT, directed the owner of the truck and the insurance company to pay the compensation to Mehak Anant Sharma, resident of Wagle Estate area here.
On March 28, 2010, a truck coming from the opposite direction knocked down the motorbike ridden by Mehak's father on Vajreshwari-Shirsad road near the village Shirsad. Mehak and her mother were riding pillion.
A compensation claim had been filed against the truck owner Ashraf Khalil Lonbal and the Bajaj Allianz General Insurance.
The insurance company claimed negligence of motorbike rider was also responsible for the mishap, but the tribunal relied on the FIR registered by the police which mentions that the truck was being driven in a rash manner, and had dashed two and not one motorbikes.
