"In the film and glamour industry, 99 per cent people are failure and only one per cent go on to become successful. We don't go to see where these 99 per cent have gone," Bhandakar said during the 'Women Economic Forum' here today, where he was awarded with 'Man of the Decade' honour.
"'Calendar Girls' is a story about five such women who have their one year glory and then they disappear. The film will be released in August this year," said the "Fashion" helmer.
Bhandarkar said he took new faces to play the lead roles in the film. "I did not want established actors. I wanted girls next door," the "Heroine" director said.
The filmmaker shared he was written off after his first movie "Trishakti" flopped at the box-office and was refused in the social circle.
"At one point, I thought I want to make a film which I believe in. That's how 'Chandni Bar' was born. That movie changed my career. It changed the whole women-oriented cinema which emerged from there," he said.
