Madras HC allows woman to redeem jewels from nationalised bank
Press Trust of India Madurai The Madras High Court bench here has allowed a woman to redeem her jewels pledged with a nationalised bank by her estranged husband, who did not cooperate in retrieving them in view of the dowry harassment case filed against him.
Justice V Parthiban directed the Canara bank branch in Pudukottai to return the jewels to the woman, who filed the writ petition.
In his recent order, the judge said, As the loan amount has been discharged, she (petitioner) should be allowed to redeem her jewels.
The Court also ordered the bank to obtain an indemnity bond from the petitioner to protect it's interests as the husband could make a claim for the same jewels.
The bank could impose conditions if they deem it proper and fit in the facts and circumstances of the case before giving back the jewels in eight weeks, the judge said.
