Participating in the 60th Railway week celebrations as chief guest, he said the passenger earnings touched a record Rs 413.68crore. The division had completed various passenger amenity works costing Rs.7.69 crore to raise the passenger earnings further.
The newly gauge converted Palani-Pollachi section and newly electrified Madurai-Tuticorin-Tirunelveli section were commissioned.
He said one pair of passenger train between Tirunelveli and Tiruchendur, one pair of passenger between Punalur-Kanniyakumari and three pairs of special trains in the newly opened Palani-Pollachi section were introduced.
The 123 KM long 24 Fibre Optic Cable, connecting the eight stations between Tenkasi and Virudhunagar provided a high speed channel for Passenger Reservation System and Unreserved Ticketing System of the Railways, apart from providing connectivity to axle counters in the section which enhances safety in the block sections.
Joint development of stations in association with Ministry of Tourism would be carried out at Madurai and Rameswaram at a cost of Rs.Four crore, he said.
Sunil Kumar Garg said the division was committed to safety in train operations and pledged for zero accidents in 2015-16.
