The magisterial probe, ordered by AAP government into the "mysterious" death of a man on Monday while being taken to a police station in North Delhi's Nand Nagri area, has held policemen "responsible" for the death.
According to sources, District Magistrate, Shahdara, Abhishek Singh, investigating the matter, has termed the death of Shanu Shahnawaz Chaudhary (35) "unnatural" and held the cops, who him took to hospital, guilty for his death.
Chaudhary died on Monday under "mysterious circumstances" while being taken to a police station, after he intervened in a fight between a couple and police.
"Chaudhary died due to suffocation and it was an unnatural death. Eyewitnesses have told the DM that cops were at fault as they resorted to violent means and the victim was beaten up by the cops as they sat on his body to control him," a senior official said.
Sources said Delhi government is likely to seek registration of FIR against those cops who took the victim to the hospital.
"Government may seek registration of FIR against the police personnel who took Choudhary in PCR van to hospital," they said.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia today met Lt Governor Najeeb Jung regarding this case and have submitted a video evidence of the incident demanding strict action against the cops, the source said.
Yesterday, Sisodia had directed the District Magistrate to probe the case, after local MLA Rajendra Gautam and residents complained to the Delhi government about it.
