A magisterial probe was ordered into the 'suicide' of a dalit youth from the naxal-infested district recently, allegedly over harassment by police.
Ordering the inquiry yesterday, District Collector Abhishek Krishna said that the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Gadchiroli will investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Sachin Garadwar (23) on March 14.
Sachin's family members claimed that he committed suicide by jumping in a well in his native village over police harassment.
The inquiry was ordered after Sachin's mother Rekha met the district collector and alleged that her son ended his life frustrated over the harassment meted out to the family members by police.
According to Rekha, local police on the night of March 14 stormed into their house accusing her son of indulging in sale of illegal liquor.
She said that police beaten up her son, herself and her two teenage daughters on that night.

According to her, Sachin was taken out by police in their vehicle and brought back after an hour. "He (Sachin) was unable to bear the trauma and plunged himself in the well in front of police", she had alleged.
Though police have denied the allegations, Rekha said when she approached Gadchiroli police station to register her complaint they turned her away.
"Local police are trying to hush up the matter", Rekha said in a memorandum submitted to the district collector.
Meanwhile, Madgi Samaj Sangathana has threatened to launch an agitation if "guilty" policemen are not brought to book, said its president Samayya Pasula.
The issue took a political turn with an all-party sit-in protest being held two days back seeking dismissal of the cops.
