The Chief Minister has also announced a grant of Rs 10 lakhs for the next of kin of Gurdev Singh (62) of village Tarmala, an official spokesperson said here today.
Amarinder took "serious note" of media reports about the death of Gurdev Singh, a farmer owing allegiance to the Shiromani Akali Dal, during a raid by the police over his alleged involvement in drugs and has ordered a detailed probe to find the cause, circumstances and also to fix responsibility for the incident, the spokesperson said.
The Chief Minister reiterated his promise to free the state from the drugs menace.
He however asked officials of police and other agencies not to cause undue inconvenience or harassment to anyone during the ongoing search operations for drug seizures across the state.
The Chief Minister solicited public support to make the anti-drugs campaign a success in the larger interest of the state's welfare and the future of their children, the spokesperson said.
