Magma Fincoro, PCRA aim to train 1.5 lakh truckers in 3 years

Non-banking fiance company Magma Fincorp in collaboration with the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) will train 1.5 lakh truck drivers in the next three years with an aim to cut down fuel consumption and curb the number of accidents on roads.
Magma Fincorp had started the programme called 'Highway Heroes' in 2015 with an aim to reduce pollution, to increase fuel efficiency and profitability of truckers. Over 1 lakh truckers have been trained under the programme so far.
Motivated by the positive impact and huge potential of the movement, Magma and PCRA now aim to take this initiative to more places and train another 1.5 lakh drivers in the next three years, the company statement said.
At present, there are around 2 million truckers in the country as per industry estimates. The improvement in their driving skills can help reduce fuel consumption, reduce environmental issues and increase their profitability.
The efforts of the company to improve skills of truckers have helped to reduce the consumption of fuel by two crore litres since the initiative started. Besides, it helped to reduce the 6 crore kgs of Co2 emission in the period.
Transport sector's share is 16.9 per in total fuel consumptions in the country which is about 36.5 million tonnes of energy equivalent in a year.
At present, there are 160 training centres at various locations to impart training to truckers. The company had undertaken this initiative under the corporate social responsibility.
Over 60,000 drivers have benefitted directly through the medical camps conduced under this initiative.
