Maharashtra Government was aiming to attract investment of Rs 5 lakh crore in the next five years in the industrial sector which would generate 20 lakh jobs, it said today.
Industries Minister Subhash Desai today said the manufacturing sector had tremendous potential in the state.
He said the industries department was also working on a proposal of cluster development on the land held by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. "There would be a textile park in Amravati, a winery park in Nashik while IT park, food processing park are also planned," he said.
Investment of Rs 2,000 crore was being proposed in the Amravati textile park, Desai said.
A food processing unit was proposed at Satara and Nagpur. A floriculture park had already come up at Talegaon near Pune. "Such specialised parks will help increase productivity and business," the minister said.
Deliberations were also on as to how to provide electricity to industry at affordable rates as the burden of cross-subsidising the concessional-rate supply to agriculture falls on the industry, he added.
MIDCs had 70,000 hectares of land across the state, but it was in the areas where there was little demand for land for industry, he said.
In Kolhapur district, Desai said, notices were being issued to industrial units for taking up MIDC plots but not utilising them. "We have recovered the plots and will redistribute them to those who are serious about investment. Over 100 plots would be recovered for non-utilisation. The process of conducting surveys and issuing notices will continue," he added.
