Although the amendment was restricted to the lands in Amravati and Nagpur divisions, the proposal moved by BJP legislators Devendra Phadanvis and Prakash Mehta to include Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra was accepted by the government.
The state government will specify the premium and share of the unearned income to be recovered and the terms and conditions thereof while granting permission for sale, transfer, redevelopment or change of use of any government and nazul land.
The amendment provides that the land given for a particular purpose is not used at all, the same can be taken back by the government.
Nazul land is used for non-agriculture purpose such as buildings, road, market, playground or any other public purpose or which has potential for such use in future including lands granted on long or short term lease.
Meanwhile, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat told the House that an audit of the government land was being done and would be completed in three months.
