Unaccounted cash worth Rs 10 lakh and a huge quantity of liquor was seized in Satara district of Maharashtra in the early hours on Monday, police said.

It is suspected that the liquor and cash was supposed to be used to influence voters in upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Police have detained seven persons in this regard, an official said, adding that police had information that the trucks might be passing Shirval, Karad, Talbeed, Lonand, Umbraj and Aundh villages in Satara taluka in western Maharashtra, around 300 kms from Mumbai.

Senior officials including Satara superintendent of police Tejasvi Satpute participated in the wee-hour operation, he said.

"Police detained at least seven persons with cash of Rs 10 lakh and three trucks full of liquor," he said, adding that questionning of the seven persons is underway.

Elections to all the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra will be held in four phases between April 11 and April 29.
