Maharashtra, Goa to get next-generation network in FY17

Union Communications and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said the government will launch 'Next Generation Network' in major cities of Maharashtra and Goa during the next financial year.

The next-gen network is aimed at better quality broadband connectivity.

"In fiscal 2016-17, we will have 4 lakh connections in Maharashtra under 'Next Generation Network' (NGN)," Prasad said here.

According to the minister, the network would be implemented in Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Kalyan, Nanded and Goa in financial year 2016-17.

Besides, Prasad said that as many as 174 wi-fi hot-spots would be set up across 58 cities in Maharashtra.

Further, the minister said that a "new prepaid mobile intelligence network would be set up in Pune to give newer services to prepaid customers".
