Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today hailed the water conservation work done by the local branches of 'Art of Living' -- the organisation founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, at Junewani in Nagpur district.
"24-km nulla deepening work in Junewani has been completed by Art of Living under 'Mazi Vena-Mazi Ganga' project in 50 days to irrigate 1,400 hectares. This work will benefit Khini dhanoli, Mangli, Junewani, Nandukhura khairi, Madhav ghorad, Ambazari and Degma villages in Nagpur," Fadnavis told reporters here today.
He also visited and inspected conservation works at Bajargaon, Panjarkate and Dhurkheda in the Katol tehsil of Nagpur district today.
Arnab Chakraborty, one of the coordinators of 'Jal Jagruti Abhiyaan' project, said the estimated cost of the project was Rs 1.67 crore but the project could be completed in Rs 67 lakh as a result of co-ordination between the organisation, the government and the corporate sector.
He said more than 20 villages will benefit from this project which aims to rejuvenate the Vena river through drainage network treatment of around 30 km of nullahs.
"In the first phase itself, the project will enhance the ground water table in around 20 sq km area. The work is done after extensive mapping in a scientific manner," Chakraborty said.
