Maha CM orders action against 37 convicted babus

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said he ordered removal of those who are still in government service despite being convicted in corruption cases, after 37 such cases came to his notice.
Fadnavis today directed the state's chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya to take action against such officials.
"While I was discussing the status of such cases with the director general of ACB (anti-corruption bureau), I learnt that there are 37 people who have been convicted by courts, but are still in government service, all of them from (the time of) previous Congress and NCP government. This prompted me to direct the chief secretary to start the process of removing them immediately," Fadnavis told PTI.

"Even the concerned department heads will be given show cause notices for failure to take action," he said.
"Those who are caught in the ACB net while indulging in malpractices should be suspended. Even if they are reinstated, they cannot be given the same position as earlier. This norm too was not followed," he said.
Reacting to the NCP leader Ajit Pawar's comment that no party leader, however big, will be spared if found to be indulging in malpractices, Fadnavis asked why no action was taken against NCP leaders accused of corruption in the past.
"I don't know what NCP did during their regime. I don't know why no action was taken against people from NCP who were accused of indulging in malpractices. But we are not going to wait (for NCP to act), stringent action will be taken against anybody who is found to be indulging in malpractices," the Chief Minister said.

Embarrassed over alleged involvement of NCP leader and Kolhapur mayor Trupti Malvi in a bribery case, Pawar had said that his party did not tolerate corruption, and strict action would be taken against anybody, however big or small, if found to be engaging in malpractices.
