The rally will be held at Somaiya ground here.

Sources said the prevailing economic, social and political situation and the party's contribution to the history would be highlighted at the rally, which will be addressed by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, state Congress president Manikrao Thakre and union ministers from the state.

The party's strategy for the Lok Sabha elections will be discussed. Recent issues such as FDI in retail, direct cash transfers, Indu Mill land transfer for Ambedkar memorial, etc will be highlighted.

AICC president Sonia Gandhi would be requested to attend the rally, the sources added.

A few days ago, Union Ministers P Chidambaram, Salman Kurshid and Manish Tewari had addressed a group of office-bearers and district unit chiefs in Mumbai as part of the preparations for the Lok Sabha polls.

MPCC president Manikrao Thakre today interacted with journalists from Akola, Nanded, Solapur, Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune and Aurangabad through video conference facility set up at the party headquarters `Tilak Bhavan' here. Tilak Bhavan would be linked to the AICC headquarters in Delhi and district-level headquarters in the state by video link very soon.

Thakre said the party unit was trying to get Sonia Gandhi or general secretary Rahul Gandhi to inaugurate the facility.
