Pointing to the 'Elgar Morcha' organised by Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh leader Prakash Ambedkar demanding the arrest of Hindutva leader Sambhaji Bhide, the Opposition today sought to bring an adjournment motion which was subsequently rejected by the Chair.

Bhide is one of the prime accused in the case related to the Bhima-Koregaon violence that occurred on January 1.

Moving the adjournment motion, Leader of Opposition Dhananjay Munde claimed that another accused, Milind Ekbote, surrendered before the authorities.

"However, the second accused, Sambhaji Bhide Guruji, has not yet been arrested. Does the government want to create a divide in society by not arresting Bhide?" he asked.

He said Bhide had not been arrested almost three months after the incident and added that such morchas would continue till he was arrested.

"The action of the government raises suspicion. In the early hours of yesterday, miscreants tried to desecrate the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Khed. Anti-social elements now have no fear of the government," Munde said.

Leader of the House Chandrakant Patil urged the members to exercise restraint while expressing their feelings so that the atmosphere outside was not vitiated.

"Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has already given a detailed reply on the issue in the House last week. Ekbote was immediately arrested after the Supreme Court rejected his bail application," Patil said.

Giving his ruling on the issue, Deputy Chairman Manikrao Thakare stated that the House had already debated the issue. He then turned down the adjournment motion.
