The Maharashtra government has directed the vigilance squads of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct checks in view of the reports of "plastic eggs" being sold in some parts of the state.
FDA minister Girish Bapat has taken serious note of the reports on social media about sale of plastic eggs and chemically grown fruits, a statement issued by the FDA said.
"The Government is taking care to ensure that such reports do not create panic and fear among citizens so the minister has issued directives to the vigilance squads of FDA to conduct checks and take strict action," the statement said.
Bapat has also sought a report on the matter and asked the department to create awareness among the people, it added.
