Maha government to strengthen health sector

The Maharashtra government will be strengthening its health sector by starting additional centres in different districts and creating 1,332 additional posts, health minister Deepak Sawant said today.
"There will be additional 74 health sub-centres, 20 primary health centres, one rural hospital, three district sub-health centres, two district hospitals, four hospitals for women and six trauma care centres that are sanctioned by the state," Sawant told reporters here.
"The total permission is for 111 units across the state. To make these institutions operational, the state is going to create new 1,332 posts including medical officers, health assistants and laboratory assistants in support of these institutions," he said.

"The health sub-centres would come up in districts like Gondia, Osmanabad, Beed, Parbhani, Jalna, Aurangabad, Sangli, Ahmednagar, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik and Thane. Some of the health centres are going to come up in tribal areas as well so that state's health services will be easily accessible to the tribes," Sawant said.
The tribal department and state health department of the state government was in the line of fire after six tribal kids died of malnutrition a few months ago.
Areas like Melghat in Vidarbha region, Nashik and Thane have sizeable number of tribals. These areas will have health centres as well as allied facilities to address the requirements of patients, Sawant said.

The government has also decided to fill the posts of medical officers in government run hospitals, where appointed medical officers are pursuing post-graduate education. There are some 545 vacant posts across the state and all will be filled soon, said the minister.
