The state government is committed towards the development of tribals and the community members must avail full benefit of the state-run welfare schemes, Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao said.
The Governor was on a one-day tour to tribal villages of Murbad taluka in the district and reviewed various welfare projects. Later, he also held a meeting with senior officers of the district.
Addressing villagers and students at an ashram school, he said that the government was committed for the development of tribals and that they should avail maximum benefits from facilities rendered by the government.
He said the state government is also making efforts to set up ashram schools in urban areas also and has plans to run professional courses at these schools.
Rao said that a study needs to be conducted on the effectiveness of PESA [Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas)] Act and check the issues faced during its implementation.
He stressed that employment must be made available to tribals in villages under MGNREGA programme.
Later, during the meeting with district officials, Rao directed them to complete formalities regarding forest rights.
He also directed officials to conduct a survey of the tanks that were given to gram panchayats for breeding fish.
