The state government has set up a cell at the Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi to help people from the state locate their relatives and friends.
The helpline of this cell is 011-2338-0325. It is working under Sameer Sahai, Additional Resident Commissioner.
People can also contact the Mantralaya control room here at 022-2202-7990 to get information.
The government, in co-ordination with the National Disaster Response Force and other agencies, was trying to bring the tourists back, an officer in Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's office told PTI.
Earlier in the day, Fadnavis instructed the state disaster management team to be prepared for rescue operations which may have to be undertaken in Nepal as well as in India.
The tremors of the high-intensity earthquake which shook Nepal, east and north India were felt in some places in Maharashtra too, though there were no reports of casualties in the state.
