"In 2011-12, 121 police cases had been registered, licenses of four companies had been suspended and 1,245 licenses were cancelled. There were 695 court cases and goods worth Rs six crore were seized," Agriculture Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil told the legislative assembly.

Forty cases - 30 for bogus seeds and 10 for fertilisers - were filed and stock worth Rs three crore was seized from traders, he said.

Earlier, Sudhir Mungantiwar (BJP) criticised the government for its apathetic attitude towards taking action against sale of bogus seeds, fertilisers and pesticides.

He stressed the need for urgent action to take stringent steps to stop the sale and said in Yavatmal alone, fertilisers worth Rs 37.5 lakh, which did not have permission and license of the agriculture department, were seized last month.
