The Maharashtra government will organise a series of programmes next year to mark the birth centenary of veteran singer and musician Sudhir Phadke.
The programmes will commence from July 25, 2018, state culture minister Vinod Tawde said at an event last night.
Phadke, an accomplished Marathi singer-composer, was born in 1919. He died in 2002.
He was regarded as an icon of the Marathi film industry. Apart from Marathi, Phadke sang and composed songs in several Hindi films as well.
At the event, veteran singer Pushpa Pagdhare was felicitated with the 'Gansamradni Lata Mangeshkar' award.
The award has been constituted by the state culture department to felicitate senior vocal artists for their contribution to the music industry.
Music director Uttam Singh, the recipient of 'Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement' instituted by the Maharashtra government, presented the award to Pagdhare.
Pagdhare, who is well known for the song "Itni shakti hume dena data", said getting the Lata Mageshkar award was a "dream come true" and dedicated the honour to the victims of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
