For fulfilling its long-pending promise, Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra would enact a new legislation to regularise slums that came up till the year 2000.
The proposed draft will be cleared in the next cabinet meeting to be held this Sunday before the start of the budget session, sources said.
The issue was discussed in today's cabinet meeting, in which ministers spoke about the urgency of implementing the electoral promise, as well as the cluster development policy.
Congress MPs and MLAs have met Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan during the weekend and demanded that party's interests in Mumbai have to be safeguarded at any cost. They also lamented over the delay in fulfilling the election promise.
Sources said that pending issues regarding Mumbai, including power tariff, are likely to be taken up in the next cabinet.
