Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said the government is trying to facilitate availability of loans at low interest rates for police personnel to buy homes.
"We are trying to build government houses for police and also trying to make available soft loan for the police department employees so that they can buy their own houses," Fadnavis said in the state Legislative Council here.
The state government has already sanctioned Rs 298.67 crore this year for police housing, he said.
"Even the Police Housing Corporation has been given Rs 500 crore that can be used for the housing," he said.
The police personnel can take benefits of an additional FSI of 4 given to build more houses, Fadnavis said.
A definite plan to provide houses to all policemen in the state will be chalked out within a few years.
The issue was raised by BJP MLC Bhai Girkar, who asked how police department employees are staying in BDD chawls which are in a dilapidated condition and demanded redevelopment of the chawls.
"Apart from Rs 500 crore HUDCO provision, additional funds would be given too. We will soon come up with a redevelopment scheme for the BDD chawls," Fadnavis said.
