In an effort to improve the crime conviction rate, Maharashtra Government has decided to honour efficient police officers and public prosecutors with 'Chief Minister's Medal' for their meritorious work during investigations.
Lot of efforts go into taking a criminal case to its logical end of conviction and an appreciation of the diligent work in form of 'Chief Minister's Medal' will boost officers and public prosecutors to do a good job, a Home department official said.
"From the time an FIR is filed, skills of an investigating officer is tested as he needs to produce evidence with solid proof and witnesses while a public prosecutor has to effectively present them before the court," the official said.
Investigating officers, including the senior most and junior most, engaged in tackling street crimes and assistant public prosecutor who has done maximum chargesheets in the Pre-Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic techniques (PCPNDT) ACT 1994, are eligible to receive the honour.
The State DGP has been asked to prepare the draft of the proposal for the 'Chief Minister's Medal' and criteria for selection of winners.
The medal will be given every year and the selection will be done by two committees headed by the State DGP.
