The Maharashtra government today decided to set up a corpus fund to treat resident doctors in the state if they fall ill.
"Health check-up of resident doctors will be done every three months. If it is detected that they are ill, their treatment will be done with the corpus fund," Medical Education minister Vijaykumar Gavit told the state legislative council.
Congress MLC Alka Desai had raised the issue, lamenting that a doctor, Samidha Khandare, had died due to tuberculosis in Lokmanya Hospital after she came in contact with an affected patient. She also said doctors are working extra hours which may affect their health condition.
Responding to her concern, Gavit said the government is planning to set up corpus fund in a bid to provide security and money for medical treatment of doctors in the state.
