Maha Guv to lay wreath at police martyrs' memorial tomorrow

Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao will lay a wreath at the Police Martyrs' memorial at Naigaon in Mumbai tomorrow to mark the Police Commemoration Day.
The Governor will read out a message paying tribute to the police officers and personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty on this occasion to be held at the police headquarters.
Names of police martyrs will be read out and a parade will present 'Shok Shastra' and gun salute on this occasion.
The history of commemoration Day traces back to October 21, 1959 when a patrol party of CRPF, led by Senior Inspector Karan Singh, was ambushed by the Chinese forces at Hot Springs, Ladakh and 10 jawans were killed.

The bravery and resultant sacrifice of jawans fighting at altitude of 16,000 ft in extremely cold conditions and against all odds is an epitome of the rarest of the rare courage.
On October 21 every year, a Commemoration Parade is held as a mark of respect to brave police martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The arms are reversed and a two-minute silence is observed in the honour of the departed souls.
The names of martyrs of state police are read out to acknowledge with pride the supreme sacrifices made by them.
