Maha: Man held for stealing money from temple cash box

A 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing money from a cash box kept at a temple in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said Tuesday.

Jaikisan Dave, a native of Hadapsar area in neighbouring Pune, broke open the cash box at the Ganesh temple located in Parsi Wada area here on Monday, a police spokesperson said.

He was about to flee with Rs 2,134 cash when some people caught hold of him and handed him to the police, she said.

The police seized a plier, a screwdriver, an Aadhaar card and two mobile phones from his possession, she said.

The accused was subsequently arrested and booked under Indian Penal Code Section 461 (dishonestly breaking open receptacle containing property), she added.
