Raising the demand in the state Legislative Assembly today, BJP MLA Sardar Tara Singh said he was facing problems in getting his passport renewed. "We have to visit courts once or twice every year," he said.
Singh was speaking during a debate on the bill empowering the state government to allow prosecution of corporators in corruption cases.
The demand was supported by Devendra Phadanvis (BJP) who said though he had a US visa but having hard time in getting his passport since he had political cases pending against him.
Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse said that minor cases where there has been no loss to life should be withdrawn.
He said the government had decided in 2005 to withdraw minor cases against legislators but the decision has not been implemented.
In his reply, Minister of state for Law and Judiciary Bhaskar Jadhav said that he sympathised with the demand and will check why the 2005 decision has not been implemented.
