A candidate from Democratic Secular Party today filed his nomination papers to contest Nagpur-South constituency in October 15 Assembly elections, notification for which was issued today.
Abdul Karim Abdul Gaffar Patel was the only candidate from 12 Assembly seats in Nagpur district, to file his papers on the first day of the issue of notification, official sources said.
DSP put up a number of candidates in 2009 Assembly elections, and had unsuccessfully contested eleven seats in the general election of the same year. It has also been active in Bihar.
Nagpur (South) was won by Dinanath Padole of Congress in 2009 elections.
Filing of nominations is likely to pick up after September 24, which is the last day of 'pitru paksha'--a period considered inauspicious by Hindus to start any new work--with the last day for filing the nomination forms is September 27.
