Maha shows 7.6% rise in vehicles on road at 3.14 cr: Survey

The total number of vehicles on roads in Maharashtra increased by about 7.6 per cent at 3.14 crore as on January 1 this year compared to the previous year, as per the Economic Survey 2017-18.
The number of vehicles stood at 25,859 per one lakh population.
Of the total vehicles in the state, about 31.79 lakh vehicles (7.7 per cent) are in Mumbai, which has shown an increase in the purchase of vehicles when compared to the rest of the state, it stated.
While the number of two-wheelers were increased by 7. 6 per cent in Maharashtra, Mumbai recorded the growth of 8.6 per cent. The number of auto rickshaws came down in the state by 3.7 per cent while Mumbai recorded the growth of 11.2 per cent, it stated.

In case of LMVs, (cars, jeeps, station wagons and taxis), Maharashtra has shown an increase of 8.2 per cent while Mumbai has recorded the growth of 6.1 per cent, as per the Survey.
While the number of private vehicles is rising, the effective kilometres operated per day by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) owned State Transport (ST) buses has decreased by 1.4 per cent, it said.

"MSRTC carried an average of 66.95 lakh passengers per day during 2016-17. Effective kilometres operated per day has decreased by about 1.4 per cent and the percentage load factor has decreased by 0.8 per cent over the previous year," said the report.

The state-owned corporation has suffered a loss of Rs 505.49 crore in 2016-17 compared to Rs 121.89 crore loss in 2015-16.
As per the report of Niti Aayog on infrastructure facilities in 2017, Maharashtra is leading in the country with the share of 11 per cent in the expenditure on infrastructure facilities projects.
The government will be spending around Rs 81,389 crore on all Metro Rail Projects, which include Dahisar-DN Nagar (18.6 km), Colaba-Bandra-Seepz (33.5 km), Vadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarwadavli (32 km), Andheri (E) -Dahisar (E) (16.5 km) and DN Nagar-Mandale (23.6 km), Nagpur Metro Rail project consisting of 38.22 km and Pune Metro Rail project of length 31.25 km, it stated.

The proposed Maharashtra-Nagpur Samrudhhi corridor will cost the state Rs 46,000 crore.
