Maha to discuss drought situation with Centre: Chavan

Admitting that the situation was bad, Chavan said the primary concern was availability of drinking water and measures have been initiated for water management till the arrival of monsoon rains next year.

Winding up two-day marathon debate on drought condition initiated by Opposition Leader in the Assembly, Eknath Khadse (BJP) and Subhas Desai (Sena), Chavan said about 13 districts were affected by poor rains.

Minister for Cooperation Harshwanrdhan Patil said necessary instructions have been issued on crop loan recovery and there would be no forced recovery.

Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) Minister Nitin Raut said a provision of Rs 700 crore has been made for the EGS scheme and about one crore persons have been provided with jobs under the EGS scheme.

Minister for Agriculture Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil said there was a drop in the yield in both rabi and kharif crop and no sowing could take place on 10,500 hectares of land in different districts.

He said the state was setting up meteorology stations in each district to make weather forecast.
