Mahajan, Bhagwat to address Rashtriya Sevika Samiti outreach

Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, a women's organisation with links to the RSS, will call a convention next month in the national capital soon to brain-storm as to how to improve its reach, especially among the youth, and bring in sync with changing times.
The convention will be held in the national capital from November 11-13.
Women volunteers from across the country are expected to attend the three-day convention that will see Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and RSS Sarsanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat address the 'sevikas'.
"We will discuss our way forward in terms of improving our outreach, especially among young women, keeping in minds the changing times. We will also review the work done by us in last eight years," Alka Inamdar, joint-general secretary of the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, said.

She added that the changes will "strictly be within the ideological parameters" of the organisation.
Part of the Sangh Parivar umbrella, the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti was founded by Laxmibai Kelkar in 1936. It terms itself as a "sister concern of the RSS, but independent of it."

Like the RSS, the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti also has full- time "pracharikas" with the current strength being 32, mostly from the Northeast.
Inamdar said, over the period, issues too have changed in the society, which need to be addressed.
For instance, the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti had recently organised seminar for working women on how to deal with pressures they face while balancing office and home.
