Maharashtra: 339 candidates in fray for April 24 polls

As many as 339 candidates have remained in the fray for the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections for 19 constituencies including those in Mumbai, with 77 candidates withdrawing nominations today.
Today was the last day of withdrawal. A total of 495 candidates had filed nominations for this phase, slated for April 24.
Aurangabad constituency witnessed the highest number of candidates -- 45 -- filing papers, while the lowest -- 14 -- nominations were filed in Nandurbar.
However, in Aurangabad, eventually 27 candidates withdrew their nominations, which again was the highest number. Eleven candidates withdrew in Raver, nine in Nandurbar, while no candidate withdrew in Mumbai South and Mumbai North.
The constituencies going to the polls on April 24 include Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Aurangabad and Jalna.
Prominent among those in the fray are NCP strongman and the state PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal (Nashik), Union Minister of State for Telecom Milind Deora (Mumbai South), noted social activist Medha Patkar on AAP ticket (Mumbai North East).
