Rane, who recently criticised Chavan's leadership, has handed over his resignation as minister, but it is yet to be accepted.
Speaking to reporters at his official residence here, Chavan said to a question that "we were together at a function and he did not discuss his plans with me".
Rane had said last week that he would disclose his future course of action on Tuesday.
