Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said here today that he had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up an independent review committee for pending development projects in Mumbai.
Fadnavis clarified that his initiative had nothing to do with hurting the federal structure or autonomy of the Mumbai civic body and the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Developmental Authority (MMRDA).
"Mumbai being a coastal city, many central government permissions related to environment, coastal regulatory zone and eco-sensitive mangroves are required for most development projects. Such projects have been held up for nearly 30 years because of delays of various permissions," Fadnavis said.
"During a recent Planning Commission meeting, I requested the Prime Minister to set up a review committee for the pending projects and fast track approvals for them. Projects like the coastal road, Trans-Harbour Link need to be expedited," Fadnavis told PTI.
The proposal has nothing to do with federal structure or autonomy of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), he said.
"I clarified in the Legislature as well and NCP group leader in the Legislative council Sunil Tatkare congratulated me for my initiative," Fadnavis said, adding, NCP president Sharad Pawar's letter to the Prime Minister in this regard is based on "hearsay".
He said he had not constituted any committee in this regard.
