"The central and state security forces will start the joint action against the naxals and the outlaws will be given a befitting reply. We will also seek cooperation of the neighbouring states in the task," he said without assigning any deadline to the proposed plan.

In an apparent reference to the abduction of the Sukma district collector in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, Patil said security of public representatives will be increased and plain-cloth policemen will be deployed in rural areas, besides heightened patrolling to check naxal activities.

Patil, who is on tour of the district, told reporters that a high-level meeting of the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary and officials of the forest and other important departments will shortly be held at Gadchiroli to discuss development issues.

Earlier, Patil took part in the Maharashtra Foundation Day celebrations held at the Police Ground here.

"A special action plan will be drawn up for the district and all necessary efforts will be made for its development. The disappointment of the people of the district will be addressed. The self-help groups will be given financial assistance to start forest-based business activities," Patil, who is also the guardian minister of the district, said.

Terming as "threat to democracy" the resignations of local body members and political workers, the state home minister said the resignations will not be accepted. (More) PTI Corr NSK
