Releasing a booklet titled 'Disha-hin karun thevlay Maharashtra Majha' ('My Maharashtra has been rendered directionless'), Chavan said here that if BJP and Shiv Sena were not capable of honouring the mandate given by people, Congress was ready to face mid-term elections.
He demanded that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis resign owning moral responsibility for government's failures.
"It is surprising and shocking that a cabinet minister of Shiv Sena refers to the Chief Minister by his first name in public. The differences between the two alliance partners have hit an all-time low. I am not an astrologer to predict when the mid-term polls will be held. But my party is ready to face the challenge," said Chavan, a former Chief Minister.
Referring to the war of words between Shiv Sena and BJP in the run-up to the civic polls in Kalyan-Dombivali and Kolhapur, Chavan said the Shiv Sena's dream of coming to power on its own in the state will never come true.
Under the Fadnavis government Maharashtra had lost direction, Chavan alleged, saying that the need of the hour was to write off loans of farmers to help them cope with the agrarian crisis. "However, economic progress of farmers is not on the list of priorities of the government," he said.
