Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, which was until recently, operational only in Thane, Pune and Nashik, controls drinking water supply in village panchayats, municipal councils as well as corporations of the state.
"People used to take a lot of time to travel to these places to get works like a new water connection, installation of a new pipeline, installing water purifiers, etc in their respective villages. For example, a person from Palghar had to travel all the way to Nashik or Pune, depending on the kind of work, to get it done. Now, there will be an officer in each division, who will look at all issues at the same place," Lonikar told PTI.
"Offices of Nagpur and Amravati divisions will be inaugurated on May 9 in the presence of their respective guardian ministers. Offices in Nashik and Thane were already working. Their work will continue, except that they will now be a single stop for people who need to get sanctions from any particular department," Lonikar said.
Until recently, it was the Chief Engineer of Urban and Rural Water Supply based in Thane district who gave technical sanctions for water supply schemes which are more than Rs 7.5 crore.
