Maharashtra government can approach the Centre to get permission to purchase more tur dal from farmers, it said today.
As the farmers are facing plunging tur prices because of a bumper crop, the state has already arranged to have an additional one lakh tons of tur procured by the NAFED. This procurement has not yet started in full swing.
A government resolution issued today said if there is demand, the state would again approach the Centre.
The GR asked all the divisional commissioners to provide daily reports of tur procurement. If the demand for purchase continues after 90 per cent of the one lakh tons of tur is procured, the state will make a request to the Centre to give additional procurement quota, it said.
Maharashtra government has appointed NAFED, a Central agency, for carrying out the procurement.
The government has asked the farmers to submit a declaration which will have details like Aadhar number, crop-pattern receipt, 7/12 extract (land title) copy and bank account number.
Every farmer approaching the procurement centre will get a wait-list token, and get a phone call a day before the procurement date of his or her tur, so that it can be then transported to the centre, the GR stated.
This procedure was followed in Jalna and Osmanabad and it was successful, the GR said.
