In order to make Maharashtra a more attractive destination for tourists from India and abroad, the state government is organising a three-day mega event from September 28 that is expected to see participation from stakeholders from over a dozen countries.
'Maharashtra International Travel Mart' (MITM) will showcase the tourist spots of the state and give a further fillip to its brand image, a senior official said today.
"Maharashtra has been one of the country's biggest tourist attractions with its wide arena of magnetisms. It is home to the largest inventory of tourism products that the country has to offer - five UNESCO World Heritage Sites, over 900 caves, 350 forts with splendid wildlife and world-class beaches to adorn," Tourism Secretary Valsa Nair-Singh told reporters here.
The travel mart, being held for the first time, would provide an impetus to inbound travel and tourism industry, she said.
With over 250 registered tour operators, stakeholders of industry, hoteliers, travel agents, adventure tour operators and media from over 30 countries, MITM will provide a B2B platform for perceptive travel and tourism products.
Stakeholders from industry will be invited from the US, the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, France, Greece, Israel Japan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, UAE, UK, South Africa and Singapore.
The event at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre in suburban Goregaon will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
