According to a government resolution (GR) issued here today, cities with populations of one crore have been classified as 'A+' grade and so on, upto 'D' grade.
The Municipal Corporation of Mumbai is the only one with an 'A+' grade in the list.
Corporations of Pune and Nagpur have been upgraded from 'B' to 'A', while municipal bodies like Pimpri-Chinchwad, Thane and Nashik have been upgraded from 'C' to 'B'.
The government resolution also stated that the 'D' grades of 16 other municipal corporations have been retained.
However, the government made an exception for Nagpur, since it is a sub-capital of the state, besides Nashik, since the city's per capita income exceeds norms as compared to its population, the Maharashtra government resolution said.
