"Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that the SLC Executive Committee which met last evening has decided to refer the unsubstantiated statements made by Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara at the Press Conference held at the Airport on the 8th of April 2014, to the Disciplinary Committee for their views and recommendations on same," the SLC said in a statement today.
Sri Lanka's victory reception after clinching the World Twenty20 title in Bangladesh early this month had turned sour with Jayawardene and Sangakkara slamming SLC officials for finding fault with the way the duo announced their retirement from T20 Internationals.
The SLC's counter-argument was that the players should have informed them first and not the media.
Sangakkara told the media before the start of the World Twenty20 that he would retire from T20 Internationals after the tournament.
Jayawardene, on the other hand, announced his T20 International retirement via the ICC's Twitter Mirror campaign during the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.
