All India Mahila Congress General Secretary Nagma today alleged that crimes against women have been on the rise in Puducherry and expressed concern over "lack of security and safety" to them in the Union Territory.
"Women are living in unsafe environment in Puducherry," she told reporters at the PCC office here.
"Crimes against women, including incidents of chain snatching, have been on the rise in the Union Territory," she said.
The Mahila Congress would soon come out with effective strategies to protect women by combating the crimes against them, she said but did not elaborate.
She alleged price rise and also distribution of adulterated commodities like wheat through the public distribution system, that were adding to the woes of the people, particularly women.
"Unemployment problem also remained unsolved and we need to address these issues," she said.
