Police cracked the case within 24 hours of reporting of the incident and recovered the stolen booty from the maid who was employed earlier this month by the family.
Police questioned the working maid on whose introduction the new maid was employed by the family. She told the police that the new maid resides somewhere in Motia Khan area.
A police team then visited the Motia Khan locality where they found the new maid who initially denied of any such incident but later broke down and confessed the crime.
The incident had taken place on January 17, when complainant Veena Aneja (75) had gone for a satsang in the morning.
On January 24, when she checked the almirah she found Rs 20,000 and gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh stolen. When Aneja questioned the new maid, she stopped coming to the house.
The senior citizen then felt suspicious and reported the incident to police after which a FIR was lodged.
