Maid murder: Court grants bail to former BSP MP's wife

Jagriti Singh, wife of former BSP MP Dhananjay Singh, was today granted bail by a Delhi court in the murder case of their maid in November 2013.
Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal granted bail to Jagriti, who was a dental surgeon at a government hospital here, on a personal bond of Rs one lakh and two sureties of like amount.
Her husband and former MP from Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur was granted bail earlier.
The court is currently recording prosecution evidence in the case.
It had last year framed charges against Jagriti under various sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) after she pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

It also framed charges against Jagriti for offences of murder and under IPC sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 344 (wrongfully confining for 10 or more days), 374 (unlawful compulsory labour), 201 (destruction of evidence)/202, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and criminal intimidation.

The court had ordered framing of charges against Dhananjay for the offence of destruction of evidence only.
The couple were arrested on November 5, 2013 in connection with the death of their 35-year-old maid Rakhi Bhadra, a resident of West Bengal.
Dhananjay, represented through advocate S P M Tripathi, was then an MP from Jaunpur constituency of Uttar Pradesh.

The police, in its charge sheet, had alleged that Jagriti used to "mercilessly beat" her three domestic helps and had "compelled" them to work by holding them captive.
Rakhi's body, with injury marks on her legs, chest and arms, was recovered from Dhananjay's official South Avenue residence here on November 4, 2013.
