Arguing 'masala' films have also intellectual quotients, Bengali film superstar Jeet says one can connect with the wider audience only through the mainstream route.
"My upcoming flick Game has intellect, it has rich contents packaged in an entertainer. There can be different genres of films but the mainstream cinema doesnpt lack smartness," the Tollywood 'Boss' told PTI here.
"The upcoming Game or Boss, whichever you name, are universal types of films, on subjects and cinema language you can relate with, everybody can connect with, everywhere. In such works, you can assess your role as it can be more identifiable to the general audience, across all age groups," he said.
Coming to 'Game', where he enacts a vacationing Army officer, Jeet says, "Here I come to the aid of my city which is on the throes of a terror strike. It is purely fictional account inspired from realistic references from past. Baba (director Baba Yadav) is adept in embedding such references with mainstream thread."
On etching out the role of an Army officer, he said, "I didn't draw the references from any real life Corporal. You can say it is more inspired from my own accounts of the city where I grew up, knew it's alleys like the back of my hand, and Kolkata has never been explored in a mainstream film the way it has been in Game. The city turns into the chessboard of Game."
Director Baba, who had previously touched on the gangster world in Mumbai badland in Boss, said when asked for comment, "Sleeper cells have become the reality of our society. But Game is not an out and out realistic film, it is a fun-filled hardcore commercial with logical turn of events. We have indigenised the concept of a superhit Tamil film and readapted in Bengal."
Boss is produced by Jeet's Grassroot and Reliance Entertainment.
