At the pinnacle of his illustrious career, he took over as Air Office Commanding -in-Chief of Maintenance Command on July 1, 2013.
Commissioned in the Mechanical stream of Aeronautical Engineering branch in IAF in July 1977, he graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Trichy and acquired post graduation in Propulsion from IIT, Madras. He also has a Masters Degree in Management from Osmania University.
Prior to his assignment as Commanding-in-Chief of Maintenance Command, Air Marshal Kanakraj was Director General (Aircraft) and Director General (Systems) at Air Headquarters.
He was conferred with the Presidential awards of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal on January 26, 2012 and Vishisht Seva Medal on January 26, 2009.
He was also appointed as Honorary Air ADC to the Honorable President of India, in 2014.
In his parting address, the retiring Air officer, has emphasized the need to be aggressively good in professional approach as he feels that being simply good alone is not enough to seek greater heights, the release added.
