Maize prices surged 2.88 per cent to Rs 1,250 per quintal in futures trade today after participants created fresh holdings, tracking a firm trend at the spot markets.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, maize to be delivered this month shot up by Rs 35, or 2.88 per cent, to Rs 1,250 per quintal, having an open interest of 30 lots.
The most-traded delivery in May contracts too went went up by Rs 9, or 0.77 per cent, to Rs 1,180 per quintal, in an open interest of 2,860 lots.
Marketmen attributed the rally in maize prices at futures prices to building up of fresh positions on the back of strong trend at the physical market sentiment on tight supplies against pick up in demand.
