Maize prices soared by Rs 42 to Rs 1,562 per quintal in futures trading today after speculators created fresh positions amid a firm trend at the domestic spot markets.
In futures trading at the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, maize for delivery this month was trading higher by Rs 42, or 2.76 per cent, to Rs 1,562 per quintal, with an open interest of 2,490 lots.
On similar lines, the grain for most-active July rose by Rs 22, or 1.42 per cent, to Rs 1,566 per quintal, in an open interest of 29,550 lots.
Marketmen said pick up in demand from poultries and cattle-feed makers, mainly led to the rise in maize prices at futures trade.
Besides, restricted arrivals from growing belts too supported the upside in prices, they added.
